Color Suggestions for Dance Orders

At Washday we  thrive on unique color combinations, textures and lots of eclectic mixes in our designs.  We love to encourage customers to think out of the box when ordering.  We treat each order like a little piece of art, specially designed for you.

Some dress colors can be tricky to coordinate in the flower world. Because we deal with the natural color of flowers and don't dye or spray paint, we can't match certain colors exactly .  What we can do is offer some suggestions!

Teal/Aqua/Turquoise - There are no flowers that we can order in these shades. You can stay white and neutral and have us add in some blue accent flowers (but the shade might not match exactly) or add some aqua rhinestones or glitter accents upon request to bring in your color.

You might consider a contrasting accent color as a main color. If your dress is a bright hue maybe go yellow or orange or peach, or just a vibrant mix of colors.

Black - You can go classic white and black or you can make a statement with your flowers!  You can pick any color you'd like!  Or a mix! We love to create seasonal mixes to show off the color of the season.  You could do a vibrant colorful mix or ask for something softer and more muted in pastel tones. When you order a colorful matching set from Washday and you are wearing more neutral colors, the flowers really bring the outfits together.

Orange - Orange can vary in shades, deep or tangerine, rust or cantaloupe - we love to pair it with some softer greens and peaches to help the color stand out.

Purples and Lavenders - Be very open to shades of purples in your flowers.  It's hard to match perfectly and adding some variance helps with that.

Fuschia - there is a color that isn't quite pink and isn't quite purple and we love to marry the two worlds of color into one piece of floral jewelry.  We love to do a mix of pink or purple main flowers with fuchsia and coordinating accents throughout.

Pinks:  Aside from white, pinks are probably our easiest orders, just because there are a lot of options for pink flowers! Just be sure to specify what shade - hot pink, bubblegum, blush, raspberry, medium, etc. We also love doing a mix of shades of pink and love to throw in an accent color or a bit of sparkle.

Champagne/Taupe - White/Cream with gold accents is a popular choice - also consider blush or peach with white and gold accents. You can also bring the tie or suit in with some blue or gray or black..

Blues - We can get in royal or light blue delphinium, thistle, anytime and tweedia and muscari in the spring and add it in as an accent, there are no blue main flowers. Our biggest request is white with blue accents, but we did want to mention that you don't have to just pick white as the main flower!  We have done all sorts of colors as the main color for blue dresses and used blue as an accent.  Consider yellow or pink, blush or peach or a mix of seasonal color and have us add in some blue. When wearing blue you can really play with color and just add a bit of blue in the floral mix to bring it all together.

Shades of Green - if you are wearing sage green or a lighter green, you can go white, or if you'd like color, we usually suggest a peach or blush, or a mix of softer tones. Forest Green is really pretty with autumn toned flowers - cream flowers mixed with rust, mustard yellow, burgundy etc.

Shades of Red  - Reds can be tricky - so many variations.  If you'd like some contrast consider adding in some mauve or terra cotta, maybe plum or blush would be nice as well. You can also go classic.

(she was wearing black with cherry red heels as an accent - they wanted the red to be an accent in the flowers as well, we chose to add in some deep lavender, fuchsia and deep plum accents to bring in the black.)
(a rusty autumn red - we went cream flowers with rust and terra cotta accents )

I am Wearing a Super Weird and Difficult Color!:  Ha ha.  Wearing Neon orange?  Hot pink? Bold patterns?  A mauvey pink that's kind of purple but more pink and kind of brownish?  We can help!  Send us your dress pic with your custom order and we will base our suggestions off that.

DESIGNER'S REMINDER: It is fun to do something not exactly matching to the dress!  Pull another color from a patterned tie and add that in as an accent, or maybe bring in the gray or blue of a suit.  We love to do something fun and coordinating -- a colorful peach and coral next to a black dress, a yellow and orange cuff with a bright green dress, etc, add in some blues with purples and fuchsia for a purple dress, or choose a bold accent color to bring your solid colored dress alive!

(She wore royal blue and he had this floral tie and bringing in the peach was just perfect and really brought it all together! )
(She wore yellow, but with the plaid tie and patterned sports coat we loved bringing in these other colors! This is why we love when you send us pictures! )
(She wore bright coral pink - sent us a dress picture and said "We trust you to make something beautiful!"  Do you see how the contrast is just what really sets it apart? If we were to do full on matching and do all coral, the flowers would be lost. )
( She wore a goldenrod yellow - gave us creative freedom - went for a statement deep orange, creams, gray, and brought in the yellow with craspedia)
(I can't remember what she wore, but this could go with so many dress colors - white, blush, blue, pink, red.)
(a seasonal mix - pretty with sage green, butter yellow, cream, rust)
