We are excited to offer porch pots for the first time here at Washday.
We will have two options for containers this year. We have chosen resin and composite materials due to their light weight, durability and their ability to withstand winter weather. Each pot is approximately 10 x 10 inches and will be designed with a variety of holiday evergreens including Carolina Sapphire, Incense Cedar, Cypress, and Berried Juniper along with local red winterberry, willow or birch branches, and pinecones. Ribbons will vary in color and style, but all will coordinate with your arrangement.
Each pot will be approximately 10x10 inches, but the arrangement will be closer to 24 inches high and 16-18 wide. We will have drainage holes drilled into them, unless you prefer otherwise. If the pots are in a covered area on the porch or deck, please water once a week, or when the soil is dry. If the pot is in an uncovered area, you can just let Mother Nature do her thing!
After 2-3 weeks you might notice your greens drying out and your berries darkening and withering. That is okay and natural! You can enjoy it outside in this stage as well. We keep our planters filled like this through the winter. It's a treat to see the berries when they are covered in ice!
When you are ready, discard of your greens and berries and pinecones and you will have a pot of soil ready for spring planting.
